Lophophora is a genus of spineless, button-like cacti.
http://www.urbantribes.com.au
lophophora peyote cactus collection.
Lophophora has been reported to be comprised of everything from one species, Lophophora williamsii with varieties, to the four species Lophophora diffusa, Lophophora fricii, Lophophora viridescens, and Lophophora williamsii. Most modern authorities consider Lophophora to be a genus of two species,Lophophora diffusa and Lophophora williamsii. Recent DNA sequencing studies have shown that lophophora diffusa and Lophophora williamsii indeed are distinct species. DNA evidence from the alleged species Lophophora fricii and Lophophora viridescens would allow for more accurate classification.
The plants are yellow-green, usually lacking well-defined ribs and furrows. The podaria are rarely elevated, but are broad and flat. The tufts of hair are usually spread unequally on the prominent podaria. The flowers are commonly whitish to yellowish-white. Lophophora diffusa occurs at the south end of the range of the genus in Querétaro state, Mexico. Lophophora diffusa, Lophophora diffusa contains zero to trace amounts of mescaline; pellotine is the principal alkaloid. Several people have reported that this cactus is psychoactive if ingested, though the experience is not similar to peyote. This species looks almost identical to peyote, though it is legal to possess Lophophora williamsii The plants are blue-green, usually with well-defined ribs and furrows. The tufts of hair are usually equally spaced on the ribs. The flowers are pinkish or rarely whitish. Lophophora williamsii occurs in the full range of the genus except in Querétaro state, Mexico. The mescaline content in dried Lophophora williamsii can reach 6%. Peyote has a history of ritual religious and medicinal use among certain indigenous American tribes going back thousands of years. Human cultivated specimens grow considerably faster, usually taking less than three years to go from seedling to mature flowering adult, and more rapid growth can be achieved by grafting Peyote onto mature San Pedro root stock, to expedite the age at which the Peyote flowers. Peyote contains two antibiotics named peyocactin. Lophophora williamsii, better known by its common name Peyote, but also sometimes called Mescal Button or the Divine Cactus,

Images and Peyote songs of the Native American Church. Some art by Me. both feather fans and paintings. Songs sung by IronFistEagleClaw with out the drum this time. just the gourd rattle.
The Native American Church is rooted in practices thousands of years old. John Wilson, Quanah Parker, and James Mooney were all instrumental in the early growth of what would become the Native American Church in the United States. When the church was incorporated in 1918, its first president was Frank Eagle.
An estimated 250,000 adherents. Local churches are found among a great many of the hundreds of Indian tribes in the United States.

'Excuse me, what you looking at ?
Aren't you that ?
Yes I am, why ?
I've seen you on television
Yeah I do that stuff, helps me sell my vision
So you're a prostitute ?
I guess so would you rather I shoot ?
What you looking at ?
Aren't you that ?
Yes I am, why ?
I've seen you on television
Peyote sings
Are you rich are you wealth ?
Why you do this ?
I can't do nothing else
To be truthful to you
I don't like your voice
That's ok, neither do I
The only difference between me and you
Is that I get by
'Excuse me, what you looking at ?
Peyote sings
Do you think you're a good father to your daughter ?
Yeah, and when I'm not
I burn in fire and drown in water
'Excuse me, what you looking at ?
What you looking at ?
Peyote sings
When's your new album ?
I heard the last one's falling
I don't know, I don't listen to the charts
I listen to the calling
'Excuse me, what you looking at ?
'Excuse me, what you looking at ?
What It feel like being famous ?
Feels like a muppet in a puppet show
So why'd you do it ?
It's like I said this is all I know
'Scuse me, what you looking at ?
Peyote sings
'Scuse me can I ask you a question ?
Why'd you ask so many questions ?
I don't know I guess I need a life
Yeah Mister Chen says I need a wife
I need a crutch, no not to touch
To lean on
'Scuse me why'd you ask so many questions ?
Can I ask you a question ?
Why'd you ask so many questions ?
I don't know I guess I need a life
Yeah Mister Chen says I need a wife
I need a crutch, no not to touch
To lean on to be strong
'Scuse me, what you looking at ?
Peyote sings
'Scuse me, what you looking at ?
Peyote sings
Aren't you that ?
Yes I am, why ?
I've seen you on television
Yeah I do that stuff, helps me sell my vision
Do you prostitute ?
I guess so would you rather I shoot ?
Can I ask you a question ?
Why'd you ask so many questions ?
I don't know I guess I need a life
Yeah Mister Chen says I need a wife
A crutch, not to lean
A crutch, not touch, to lean on
What you looking at ?
'Scuse me, what you looking at ?
Peyote sings
What does fame feel like ?
It feels like a muppet in a puppet show
So why'd you do it ?
It's like I said, this is all I know

How to graft Lophophora
The materials to be used:-
• A Trichocereus to be used as the stock plant
• lophophora to be grafted onto the stock plant (this is called the scion)
• A sharp razor blade
• Methylated spirits
• Rubber bands
Sterilize the blade by dipping it into the methylated spirits (this must be done prior to every cut). Cut the top off the stock plant, this must be done with a single, clean cut. The stock plant should be a vigorous species (usually Trichocereus) and must be in full growth. The cut surface should be nice and juicy.
Chamfer the top of each of the ribs on the stock plant. This stops the cut surface from becoming hollow as it dries, causing the graft to be pulled apart.
Cut another very thin sliver from the stock plant. Leave the sliver in place on the top to protect the cut. This will ensure the upper surface is flat and remains clean until the graft is made.
Repeat the above process for the lophophora scion. Ensure the final cut is clear of any rotten material in a plant being salvaged. (The brown marks here are not rot, they are merely discolored parts of the plant).
Slide the thin slivers from both the stock plant and the lophophora scion. Gently press the lophophora scion onto the top of the stock and rub the cut surfaces gently together to ensure there is no air trapped between them.
When grafting lophophora , ensure the vascular bundle of stock and lophophora scion (the circle shown arrowed in the photograph) overlap in at least one place. If the two vascular bundles are significantly different in size, ensure they cross one-another. If they don't (even if the smaller one is completely contained within the larger one) the graft will fail.
Finally apply gentle pressure to keep the cut surfaces pressed together. The most usual way to do this - though it takes a little practice - is to use rubber bands. The lophophora plant should be put in a warm, dry place out of direct sunlight for a few days until the graft has taken and the cut surfaces have healed over.
