Food Court Musical

From http://www.ImprovEverywhere.com, 16 agents create a spontaneous musical in a food court in a Los Angeles mall. Using wireless microphones and the mall's PA system, both their voices and the music was amplified throughout the food court. All cameras were hidden behind two-way mirrors and other concealed structures. This is one of over 70 different missions Improv Everywhere has executed over the past six years in New York City. Others include Frozen Grand Central, the Best Buy uniform prank, and the famous U2 Rooftop Hoax, to name a few. Then Came The Day http://www.cre8ive-license.com/skins-media/Music/Maxxie%20and%20Sketch%20-%20Then%20Came%20the%20Day.mp3 The concluding track to a rather fantastic musical; i've never been to Grease, Cats or Blood Brothers, but Osama the Musical is the best musical I've ever seen. Hands down. This track WILL stick in your head. Probably for ever...

Some of the musical items in the 2009 parade, filmed near the start from one of the Whitehall grandstands. Included in this video (the last of a series of four): Seaholm High School Band - Cedarburg High School Marching Band - Falun Dafa (Falun Gong) band - Santa Monica High School Viking Band - Amador Valley High School Marching Band & Colorguard (finishing the parade with 'Auld Lang Syne') My sincere apologies to the marching bands of Prospect High (who I missed entirely owing to pressing the wrong button on the camera), and to Lincoln East High, and Mount Horeb High, of whom, owing to similar problems, I only shot a back view glimpse. I hope someone else has shot some footage of these bands, and hope to do better myself nest year!

ONCE: Falling Slowly

Video clips from ONCE set to the song "Falling Slowly."

Queen - Under Pressure (Live At Wembley Stadium 1986)

"Under Pressure" is a 1981 song by Queen and David Bowie. It marked Queen's first released collaboration with another recording artist, and is featured on their 1982 album Hot Space. The song was a hit at the time, reaching #1 in the UK singles chart. The song evolved from a jam session the band had with Bowie at its studio in Montreux, Switzerland, therefore it was credited as co-written by the five musicians. According to Queen bassist John Deacon (as quoted in a French magazine in 1984), however, the song's primary musical songwriter was Freddie Mercury — though all contributed to the arrangement. An earlier, embryonic version of the song without Bowie called "Feel Like" is widely available in bootleg form. Queen guitarist Brian May and drummer Roger Taylor have credited the bass riff to Deacon; Bowie also said on his website that the bassline was already written before he became involved. Bowie had originally come to the studios in order to sing backing vocals in another Queen song, "Cool Cat," which would end up being edited out since he wasn't satisfied with them. Once he got there, they jammed for a while and wrote the song. Very nice song sung by the great Freddie Mercury and nicely played by Queen.

Did Coldplay copy Joe Satriani? Let's Do the Music Theory: PART 1

Visit our website for a detailed breakdown of the theory: http://www.creativeguitarstudio.com/satch_coldplay/music_theory.php OUR SCHOOL'S HOMEPAGE: http://www.creativeguitar.ca/ OUR BLOG: http://creativeguitarstudio.blogspot.com/ The Bottom Line... Joe Satriani is suing Coldplay for music plagiarism for the Verse section of their song, "Viva La Vida," - claiming that the Chorus of his 2005 song, "If I Could Fly," has the same; melody, harmony & rhythm. Satriani's Lawsuit states, "substantial original portions," of his 2005 instrumental piece, "If I Could Fly," were copied. The copyright infringement suit was filed in Los Angeles federal court on December 4. Satriani has asked for: 1). A Jury trial. 2). Damages. 3). Profits from Viva La Vida. The general public's response has been overwhelming! And, especially from guitar players around the world... Is the Joe Satriani song too simular to the Coldplay song? We'll wait and see what happens... WHAT DO YOU THINK? IF THIS GOES TO COURT... THE COURT'S VIEW WILL BE SOMETHING LIKE: The music plagiarism trial court judge will need to hear and decide several facts presented by both sides for this case to establish a jury and then go to trial. The court will approach comparing the music in lay terms. They will view only essential elements of what all music is based on. Music elements which establish the essence of a musical composition - making individual songs unique. 1). The music plagiarism trial court judge will hear and decide facts presented on by both sides. JOE SATRIANI: - The court will be presented with music plagiarism evidence on: Melody, harmony, rhythm, and to a lesser degree dynamics, (since these are the lay characteristics of music). (a). First, the plaintiff (Joe) must show that the defendant actually, physically copied the plaintiffs work. (That will be tough). Who witnessed/knew that he, (Coldplay), actually did do it and will testify as to this when Satriani has his day in court? (b). Second, the plaintiff must show that such copying was improper because it was of elements under copyright protection. * http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Musical_plagiarism Don't forget - the court will be viewing Coldplay as innocent when the trial starts. Maybe Coldplay didn't do it on purpose? Satriani will more than likely face tough challenges to win his case. The 2008 Coldplay song released to the public is certainly quite a match to Satriani's piece. However, a court trial for music plagiarism is extremely complex... Think about this... in 1997, The Rolling Stones were informed, (at a pre-launch party by Keith Richard's son nonetheless), that they had unintentionally copied KD Lang's 1992 song, "Constant Craving," with their tune, "Anybody Seen My Baby." Before the CD hit stores, The Rolling Stones immediately contacted Lang and worked out a retroactive song credit. K.D. Lang agreed on song publishing royalties with the Stones - since the songs were quite obviously sharing obvious primary elements of musical composition They were lucky - it was caught early on! ON THE STREETS: Ouside of court, this argument/lawsuit will probably all boil down to who you are a fan of. I would expect Coldplay fans might not think that the songs are too similar. And Satriani fans, (being made up of primarily guitarists & musicians), are going to be fairly pissed off that the tempo, meter, chorus melody and the bulk of the chord changes of the Coldplay song are pretty much exactly the same as the chorus of a Satriani tune composed three years ago. Guitar players stand behind their fellow axe slingers till death, "You can have my guitar when you pry my cold dead fingers off of it." Don't get mad at me if this video upsets you. (Coldplay fans) I've not made any 100% decisions that Coldplay copied anybody, (looks like a judge will decide that). I am only putting a few of the pieces of the music theory associated to these songs out there for people to talk about, think about, and hopefully understand the overall situation a little better. DEC. 6th, 2008 Announcement: I have disabled comments due to the increased swearing and vicious fighting between YouTube members, (Coldplay VS. Satriani fans). I have deleted all previously posted comments which had used threatening & vulgar language. Please visit my Blog to read more and leave your comments! Metallica - Fade To Black (Studio Version)

Metallica - Fade To Black. Check out my profile for all the other songs:) "Fade to Black" is a song by thrash metal band Metallica from their second album, Ride the Lightning (1984). It was the first musical ballad released by the band. Some people consider the lyrical theme to be about a person who has decided to commit suicide; others do not share this view. In an interview with lead vocalist James Hetfield on the set of the production "MTV Icon: Metallica" in 2005, he does recall how himself and bandmate Lars Ulrich were obsessed with death at the time the album and song were produced. It was written after almost all of their equipment, including a very rare amplifier, given to singer/rhythm guitarist James Hetfield by his mother just before she died, was stolen in Boston, MA, following a gig at the Channel Club on 14th January 1984. This event forced Metallica to borrow equipment from fellow tour band and friends, Anthrax, for the remainder of the tour. It begins with an acoustic guitar introduction and becomes progressively heavier as the song goes on. At the time, some of the more extreme elements of fans deemed the song a "sell out" as it was such a departure from Metallica's then-normal style, but since its release, "Fade To Black" has been a fan favorite and a fixture in Metallica's live performances. It was also the last song that Metallica performed live with Jason Newsted. Jason's last gig was at the VH1 Music Awards on November 30, 2000. It was one of Newsted's favorite Metallica songs, and was said to be of great sentimental value to him, although it had been written before he had joined the band. Interestingly, Jason Newsted's old band, Flotsam And Jetsam, performed a song called 'Fade To Black' on their 1986 album, Doomsday For The Deceiver before Jason left to join Metallica, although it bears little to no resemblance to the Metallica version. This was also the song that Metallica had been playing the opening of during their infamous concert at Montreal's Olympic Stadium in 1992, when James Hetfield suffered second-and-third degree burns from a pyrotechnic accident. The song is credited to Hetfield/Ulrich/Burton/Hammett. The song's title is never mentioned in the lyrics. However, the song's title is mentioned in the track The Memory Remains off the band's 1997 album, ReLoad. The song has been covered by: Disturbed, on their live album Music As A Weapon II, but without the heavier second half of the song; Apoptygma Berzerk, on their studio album Welcome to Earth; finnish band Apocalyptica and the power metal band Sonata Arctica. In 1996, Norwegian black metal band Dimmu Borgir released "Master of Disharmony" in their EP Devil's Path (1996), a song contains 30seconds of the last riffs / solo of "Fade to Black" as last bridge. Fade To Black Life it seems, will fade away Drifting further every day Getting lost within myself Nothing matters no one else I have lost the will to live Simply nothing more to give There is nothing more for me Need the end to set me free Things are not what they used to be Missing one inside of me Deathly lost, this can't be real Cannot stand this hell I feel Emptiness is filing me To the point of agony Growing darkness taking dawn I was me, but now He's gone No one but me can save myself, but it's too late Now I can't think, think why I should even try Yesterday seems as though it never existed Death Greets me warm, now I will just say good-bye
